But when I came online this morning, there was a message
from Robert Duke Drascoll, wanting to know when there
might be a free spot for him to do ROBERT'S RAMBLINGS.
So it looks like Tuesday is the only available day to
do something around that noon day time.
If that's the time anyone wants to do something ...
They can do it any time they like, but around noon -2pm
seems to be when most people do stuff.

Lu
that causes me a lot of annoyance :P

Mira
Not a good time for you?

Barbie
yes that is the latest for Europeans

Mira
Well, if uyou look at that International Time Chart
that I did for the months around June
there really is only a one hour window of opportunity for
us all to be awake at the same time.
It gets even worse when we come to the December period…
There is no time that we’re all awake at the same time.

Lu
You sent a notice about "The Bleeding" a few weeks
ago. What happened with that?

Mira
I spoke to Max the other day.
Let me paste what she said ...

“MaxEStone: Hi Miralee. My apologies for my lateness.
RL™ has been crazy. I left Mariola a message. I told her
if she can do two avis for the skit then that would be great
Mira: Oh, okay Max. There is a relatively new member
here RDD (RobertDuke Drascoll) who might be interested
in doing some theatre. I haven't asked him myself,
but if you are still looking for a male he MAY be willing.”

It's very slow

Lu
so I see ^^;

Mira
I don't think Max comes in to SL all that often and
I haven't seen Mariola since she said she would do
the part for Max, and I mentioned it to Robert I think,
but because Max hasn't been around, I haven't actually
focused on it all that much.
One thing that I did talk to Robert about is that ideally,
I would prefer it if people did things themselves, rather
than putting it on my shoulders to do.
If anyone comes up with an idea or project, then it
is they who should be managing it, not me.

Lu
yes, I totally agree

Barbie nods

Mira
Have you all read our original Statement of Purpose?
The document the original community worked together
to create about six years ago?

Lu
I read it and updated it but I still haven't done the bloody homepage

Barbie
Lu, can you update the calendar in blog?
I tried but dont know how

Lu
Sure

Mira
I've broken the essence of the original Statement of
Purpose down to this:

WANT TO KNOW A BIT ABOUT US?

More than just a place - PARADISE ARTIST COLONY @
PERFECT PARADISE is a community of creative people,
living on a natural island with the aim of fostering
creative pursuits wherever possible.

It is a meeting place where values of art, music,
literature, performing arts, cultural ideals,
peace, respect, consensus and love are highly valued.

Everyone is welcomed to share in these ideals - to take
off their shoes and bling, and just BE.

Paradise is what we all create together. The form our
society takes is entirely up to us. Anyone who feels at
home here, and shares our values of co-operative
living and resolving our differences through consensus,
is welcome.

PERFECT PARADISE COMMUNITY was established in May 2008
as a social experiment to see whether it was possible
for people from all over the world to come together and
create a new kind of ideal society.

In June 2014, the focus was changed to being a group
dedicated to the encouragement of creativity and
providing a home for artists, musicians, performers,
literary and creative folk so they could concentrate on
their craft, and not on raising money to pay for a
home here in Second Life. Thus, PARADISE ARTIST COLONY
@ PERFECT PARADISE was born.

At this stage, until the group decides otherwise ...

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES ARE:

1. To encourage everyone to develop their creativity
in whatever field they are interested in - music, art,
literature, plays, performing, juggling or whatever.
If it expresses your happiness, that's wonderful.

2. To strive for honest, caring relationships with one
another in a natural environment.

3. To create a new kind of society where everyone is
accepted for who they are and what they have to offer.

4. To provide a place of sanctuary for those who
need to heal.

5. To be open to new ways of being - to explore.

6. We remain idealistic - to always imagine what might
be possible and we trust one another to have each
other's best interests at heart.

7. To take personal responsibility for moving the colony
/ community forward, for continuing its growth.

HOW WE DO THAT - OUR VALUES:

1. We share our knowledge and our skills - we try and
mentor someone to help them develop their creative craft.

2. Each member makes a commitment to teach one thing a
year - be it a language, a skill, a cultural belief,
an esoteric practice or a way of being.

3. We support one another in our endeavours, by attending
events or activities that are organised by members.

4. We collaborate with one another on a range of
activities and projects, making a commitment as a group
to work on at least one or two group projects a year.

5. We honour our community by respecting its values and
living by them. If these values are violated, we hold
those responsible accountable for their actions and
approach the conflict with love and understanding.

6. We try new things, new ways of being. We explore together
what is possible, and being gentle and kind with one
another always. Accepting that for some, change
may not be comfortable..

7. Where there are a range of options available, we
use the process of consensus, where everyone's point
of view is taken into consideration, to come to
agreement. We resolve disputes patiently and amicably.

Lu
some of them are a little rambly, but I like the
general idea. Is the bit at the beginning new?

Mira
Well, I tried to explain them fully, so that everyone
had a full understanding of them.

Lu
fair enough

Mira
Oh, that's just the bit that I put there to introduce
ourselves to visitors who might want to know more.
I can be a bit wordy, because I like to fully explain things ...
but if you want to have a go at cutting it down a bit ...
please do.

Lu
I did do that but I think I'll try again

Mira
Oh, that's sometning that I wanted to ask too
Barbie, on the slide show we have on the easels
I was thinking that the rotation is just a bit slow
you have to stand there for so long, waiting for the
next slide to appear

Barbie
yes i know but how do you change it?

Lu
can I see the code?

Mira
You can make the rotation faster on the Freeview Script
but I don't think you are using the Freeview script are you?

Barbie
i will give you the script

Mira
I know on the Freeview script you can change the timing of the rotation, but the script in the easels, you can't view
Oh , well, of course you as owner can probably look at it

Lu
okay so if you change PICTURE_ROTATION_TIMER to 5
that will probably increase the speed

Mira
five seconds?

Lu
Yes

Mira
from memory, Freeview is set to maybe 20 seconds?

Lu & Barbie
30

Mira
It's just a matter of going through and seeing if you have enough time to read each advertisement

Robin
can you make it change by touching it? Like reading
a book?

Mira
well most of the signs are just FRED SMITH PRESENTS
MUSIC AT PARADISE ARTIST COLONY EVERY FRIDAY AT 2PM
Ooohhh ... that's another system altogether Robin.

Robin
Ah

Mira
Yeah, just click and move on to the next page.
With Freeview you can browse through. You can set it to
loop or browse but the trouble with that is that if
someone changes it to browse it won't automatically
switch to the next image. it will just stay on the last
image that someone 'browsed' rather than loop.

Robin
its a while since I wrote any scripts
but I have the manual printed somewhere

Lu
well we could set up a time after activating browse
that would change it to loop after say 5 minutes

Mira
Oh, okay ... but would something like that add to the
lag in that area? any 'listening' script will add to lag

Lu
I wouldn't have thought so
is it listening or just timing?

Mira
Not sure

Mira
Anyway, it was just something that I noticed ... that
it seemed to take a long time to switch to the next
image and I would imagine that people would get impatient
to see what the next image was.

Lu
I really don't know much about LSL

Mira
Well, I know with all the stuff that I have put up
that is on rotation, that I was able to speed up, or slow
down the rotation with the Freeview script.
The displays about Consensus for example, had a lot of
writing on them, so I had to slow it right down

Lu
I like consensus but I've never seen it actually used

Mira
Oh, I think it's wonderful
We can use it sometime on a dummy 'problem'
just as an exercise.

Lu
sounds fun :P

Mira
Maybe we'll do that next meeting?

Barbie
i figured it out and rewrote the script

Mira
Woo hooo!

Barbie
its changing every 5 seconds

Mira
we might need to do a separate easel for the list of
events, do you think? since that will require more
time to read. What do you think Barbie?
Have a second easel beside it, with either a static
display of all the events here

Barbie
yes we can do two in the info pod

Mira
and one at the candle circle?
I mean the one with the list of events
just a static display of that

Barbie
yeh maybe just a static of events

Mira
Okay ... so just to be clear ... At the Candle Circle
and the Info Pod ... we have two displays ... one
with the rotational display of individual events
and one static one listing the timing of the events
so that just stays still, and beside it is the rotational advertisements of each event but they are both on an easel
down here and flat displays up in the Info Pod?

Barbie
yes and we will speed it up a bit

Robin
be careful - on a slow connection the image can switch
before it as fully appeared

Mira
Okay ... that sounds good.
and next week ... a practice session of Consensus?
at our weekly meeting?

Lu
yes!

Mira
It has to be [on] something that there is likely
to be a difference of opinion on.
I have one maybe
How about our PRETEND topic being .....
"Should we charge people to join Paradise Artist Colony."?
It has to be something that has two very opposing
points of view or opinions.

Barbie
 good one

Mira
If anyone else comes up with a different subject, that's fine.
Mira: But the more controversial the better.

Lu
okay :)

Mira
anyway, we have the whole week to come up with a subject.
and the more controversial the better

Lu
maybe we can use it to decide on a topic for our
roleplay of using it

Mira

lol
